Malayalam filmmaker Chidambaram, widely recognised for directing the critically acclaimed Manjummel Boys, has been booked by the Kerala Police after a female actor lodged a sexual harassment complaint against him.

According to a report by Asianet News, the Ernakulam Town South Police confirmed that a case was officially registered on Monday, March 2, 2026. The complaint was filed in Kochi, and authorities acknowledged receiving detailed allegations concerning an incident that reportedly took place two years ago.

Police officials stated that while the First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, they will proceed further only after completing all necessary verifications and procedural formalities.

Sexual assault allegations against Chidambaram

As per reports, the case includes two specific allegations: assault with the intention of insulting a woman’s modesty and inappropriate physical contact. The complainant has stated that the alleged incident occurred in 2022 at her flat in Elamkulam.

In her complaint, she has accused the filmmaker of entering her residence with sexual intent and misbehaving. She further alleged that he “forcefully entered the flat and behaved inappropriately.”

Charges filed

Authorities have invoked Section 74 (outrage the modesty of a woman) and Section 75 (sexual harassment offences) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which now governs criminal offences in India.

Police officials clarified that the FIR was registered solely based on her testimony at this stage. They also emphasised that “further action will be taken only after a detailed investigation”.

Kerala Police to thoroughly investigate

Law enforcement authorities have assured that due process will be followed and that the matter will be examined thoroughly before any additional steps are taken. At present, the investigation remains in its preliminary phase.

The development has drawn attention within the Malayalam film industry, given Chidambaram’s recent success with Manjummel Boys, which was both a critical and commercial milestone.

On the professional front, the director is currently working on a new film titled Balan, with the screenplay written by Jithu Madhavan. No official statement has been released by Chidambaram regarding the allegations so far.
