Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty has issued a heartfelt appeal for peace amid the escalating Iran–Israel conflict, emphasising his hope that humanity, not violence, ultimately prevails.
Speaking publicly at an event in Chennai on March 1, the actor drew a poignant parallel between disagreements in cinema and the far graver consequences of real-world wars, urging audiences to consider the human cost of ongoing clashes in the Middle East.
Mammootty’s comments were part of celebrations marking the 50-year career of filmmaker T. V. Chandran, where he acknowledged the tragedy spreading across West Asia.
With tensions rising following recent military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, and subsequent retaliatory strikes from Tehran, global concerns over the conflict’s wider impact have intensified.
"There have been discussions, disputes and even battles in cinema. Sometimes one side wins, sometimes both sides lose. Even now, a war is taking place outside. We do not know who will win. I hope that humanity wins," he said.
The veteran actor’s plea for peace reflects broader conversations around the conflict, with voices from political leaders to civil society figures urging de-escalation and the protection of civilians across the region. In recent days, global diplomatic efforts have also focused on urgent calls for cessation of hostilities and negotiation, while governments seek to safeguard their citizens amid uncertainty.
