Malayalam actor Kannan Pattambi passes away at 62 after battling kidney-related ailment

Actor Kannan Pattambi passed away on Sunday night at the age of 62. He died at 11.41 pm while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode after suffering from a kidney-related illness.

Actor Kannan Pattambi passed away on Sunday night. He was 62. He breathed his last at 11.41 pm while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode following a kidney-related illness.

Kannan Pattambi was the son of Kuttishankaran and Sathyabhama and the younger brother of filmmaker Major Ravi.

The funeral was scheduled for 4 pm on January 5, 2026, at his family residence in Njangattiri, Pattambi, Palakkad district. Several members of the film industry, along with friends and well-wishers, were expected to gather to pay their final respects to the veteran actor and production professional.

His elder brother Major Ravi took to Instagram and shared an emotional post remembering Kannan Pattambi. He wrote in the caption, "My younger brother, Kannan Pattambi, left for his heavenly abode. Om Shanti."

Born in 1964 in Pattambi, Palakkad district, Kerala, Kannan Pattambi made a steady mark in Malayalam cinema, often portraying supporting characters that added depth and strength to ensemble casts.

He acted in over 20 films, including Pulimurugan, Punaraadhivasam, Ananthabhadram, Odiyan, Keerthichakra, Vettam, Crazy Gopalan, Kandahar, Thantra, and 12th Man. His final on-screen appearance will be in the yet-to-be-released film Rachel.

Apart from acting, Kannan Pattambi was also a respected figure in production management. He worked as a production controller on films helmed by noted directors such as Major Ravi, Shaji Kailas, V. K. Prakash, Santosh Sivan, K. J. Bose, and Anil Medayil, among others.

Kannan Pattambi’s passing marks the loss of a familiar face and a trusted professional in Malayalam cinema. His contributions, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, helped build lasting connections across films, filmmakers, and production teams. Several celebrities poured in their condolences for the late actor soon after the news of his death was confirmed.
