The momentum was maintained high over the first weekend, and it got even stronger on the second and third days.

Malayalam crime thriller Kalamkaval, which stars veteran actor Mammootty as a terrifying bad guy, did very well at the box office in its first week of release. It was one of the best movies from that area that came out in late 2025.

The movie was directed by Jithin K. Jose. It was popular when it initially came out, and it has done well in India and other big countries since then.

The movie Kalamkaval came out in theaters on December 5, 2025, and made about Rs 4.75 crore (net) in India. This was one of Mammootty's best solo openings in a long time. A lot of people had already bought tickets and were already in their seats when the movie came out in theaters. People were tremendously enthused about it, especially in Kerala.

The momentum was maintained high over the first weekend, and it got even stronger on the second and third days. Early estimates say that Kalamkaval made more than Rs 16.35 crore (net in India) in the first three days.

The movie made more than Rs 19 crore (net) in India by the fourth day. As the first week went on, Kalamkaval showed that it could stay in theaters for a long time and get a lot of people to see it on both weekdays and weekends. People say that the movie's unusual premise and Mammootty's unusual take on a bad guy kept people flocking to see it all week.

Box office trackers show that Kalamkaval generated more than Rs 50 crore over the world by Day 5. This means that people in other countries like it too. This milestone makes the movie one of the fastest Malayalam thrillers to reach these numbers this year. Experts think that if things keep going the way they are, this will be one of Mammootty's biggest hits over the world.

Estimates also reveal that the first week in India went well, with the movie making roughly Rs 22.2 crore (net in India) and a good international gross that added to the total worldwide gross. People prefer Kalamkaval more since it has a neo-noir tone and the performances are great.

It looks like Mammootty Kampany's courageous decision to make the plot darker and more like a thriller is working well.

Many individuals who liked the stars and were intrigued in the crime story and the complicated relationships between the characters flocked to see the movie. People are already saying that the movie could make more than Rs 100 crore over the world by the conclusion of its second weekend.

Kalamkaval is a great example of a movie that can do well at the box office even when a lot of other movies are released at the same time. People who have seen it say it's amazing, that the acting and story are both good. Because of how well it fared, Mammootty is now one of the most bankable and flexible actors in South Indian film.
