The personal life of Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay has suddenly become the focus of intense public attention.

In a new development, Jason Sanjay, the 25-year-old son of Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam, has unfollowed his father on Instagram, a move that has sparked waves of speculation on social media.

This comes just days after Vijay’s wife filed for divorce in a Chengalpattu court, citing an “extramarital relationship (with an actress)” as the grounds for separation.

Fans were quick to notice Jason’s social media action, interpreting it as a silent statement in the midst of the ongoing family turmoil. Jason Sanjay, who has largely stayed out of the limelight despite being the son of one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars, appears to be navigating this highly public moment in his own way.

Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam had shared 27 years of marriage, raising two children together—Jason Sanjay and daughter Divya Saasha, 20. Sangeetha’s petition also requests the right to reside in the family home and seeks permanent alimony.

While the legal proceedings unfold, the public eye is firmly fixed on the superstar’s family, keen to understand how this deeply personal situation will develop.

As of now, Vijay has not publicly addressed either the divorce petition or his son’s social media move. He remains focused on his upcoming film, Jana Nayagan, which is being billed as his swan song before he contests the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections under his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

The divorce petition has, however, ignited a wave of speculation online. Although the document does not name anyone, chatter on social media has immediately linked the alleged extramarital relationship to actress Trisha Krishnan, Vijay’s frequent co-star.

Their collaborations, from Ghilli (2004) to Leo (2023), made them one of Tamil cinema’s most beloved on-screen pairs, and fans have been quick to revisit their history in light of the news.

Sangeetha’s petition describes a relationship strained by emotional distance, alleging that Vijay “since 2021… emotionally withdrew, treated the Petitioner with verbal disdain and subjected her to constructive desertion, forcing her to live separately within the matrimonial home.” It further claims that Vijay attended public events and travelled abroad with the actress, who allegedly shared these moments on social media.

For now, neither Vijay nor Trisha Krishnan has addressed the rumours, and the only confirmed fact remains the divorce filing.
