  • High demand for Thalapathy Vijay's final film before entering politics.
  • Opening day collections may surpass Rs 50 crore, setting new records

Thalapathy Vijay’s highly anticipated political action thriller Jana Nayagan is already making waves even before hitting the big screen on January 9, 2026.

The excitement among fans is palpable, especially since the film is being touted as Vijay’s final cinematic outing before he embarks on his full-time political journey.

Early pre-sale numbers suggest the buzz is real — advance bookings for the opening day have already crossed Rs 15 crore, despite tickets being available only in select theatres so far.

In Karnataka and Kerala, where ticket sales have opened in a limited capacity, the film has already raked in around Rs 3 crore for the first day.

Industry insiders say that once bookings open across Tamil Nadu and other Indian states, these figures are expected to surge dramatically, reflecting the enormous anticipation among fans eager to see their favourite star on screen one last time.

Internationally, Jana Nayagan is performing exceptionally well, with pre-sales already touching Rs 11–12 crore for opening day tickets.

North America, the United Kingdom, and Australia are leading the way, highlighting Vijay’s massive global fan following. With bookings yet to open in many other territories, experts predict that the opening day collection could comfortably cross Rs 50 crore, making it a record-breaking start for the film.

The film’s appeal is further amplified by the emotional weight it carries for fans, as Thalapathy Vijay announced that he will be retiring from films to focus entirely on politics — a decision he reaffirmed at the audio launch of Jana Nayagan in Malaysia on December 27.
