Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj has recently created a buzz among the fans with a new update on a sequel to the Tamil film, Mahaan. The director stated that the script for the sequel has not yet been completed and that he presently only has a basic idea.
Speaking at a recent public event, Karthik said, “I have a small idea for Mahaan 2, but I need to write it. It will likely be 2027–2028 by the time the film happens.”
The first movie, Mahaan, featured Vikram and his son, Dhruv Vikram, working together on screen. It was released on Prime Video on February 10, 2022.
In addition to the father-son team, Simran, Bobby Simha, Sananth, Vettai Muthukumar, and Deepak Paramesh played significant roles in the movie.
Gandhi Mahaan, a peaceful commerce instructor, was the focus of the gangster drama. After his wife leaves him, his life takes a turn for the worse, leading him to become involved in the illegal booze trade. There is a heated intellectual and emotional conflict between the two when his son returns years later as a rigid Gandhian police officer.
On the work front, Vikram will play the lead in a movie that is tentatively called Chiyaan 63.
It will be directed by rookie Bodi Rajkumar, and Shruti Haasan will reportedly play the co-lead. The last time we saw Dhruv Vikram was in Mari Selvaraj's sports action movie Bison.

In the meantime, the 2025 release of Karthik Subbaraj's most recent movie, Retro, starred Suriya and Pooja Hegde. With production from Sikhya Entertainment, the Oscar-winning production company run by Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, the director is currently working on a new movie.
Following a traditional pooja ceremony, the movie began production in Madurai. However, the cast, crew, and plot have not yet been revealed.
