Santosh Shoban is betting on Couple Friendly, a new romance drama that Ashwin Chandrasekhar directed. The movie came out in theaters with paid previews and modest expectations. Manasa Varanasi plays the lead female role. This is a different way to think about how it works.
Plot:
Siva Sai Prathap, who is known as Siva, wants to be an interior designer, so he moves to Chennai to hunt for a large job. He rides a bike taxi around the city to make ends meet till that chance comes around. Mithra, a young woman who has already passed her IT interviews, is now stuck in limbo because her offer letter hasn't come yet. This means that her employment is on hold right now.
When things are hard for Siva and Mithra, they get together. As they deal with issues at work and in their personal lives, they slowly become each other's rocks. The movie is largely on how they live together and deal with their feelings.
What Works:
One of the best things about the movie is that it's easy to see what the characters are going through. The director gives two young people who are experiencing problems at work, which is something a lot of people can relate to these days. The first parts are really honest about how hard it is to get a job, deal with money troubles, and not trust in yourself.
The first part is very nice and warm. We can tell how close Siva and Mithra are by the little things they do every day that reveal how close they are. Their chemistry is a key part of what makes the romance feel natural and not fake.
Santosh Sobhan plays a young man who is having a hard time making ends meet in a city where everyone is eager to get ahead. He makes Siva's shortcomings seem more real and his aspirations seem more honest.
But Manasa Varanasi is the one that really sticks out. She gives Mithra depth and grace, which makes her character strong and emotionally complicated at the same time.
What doesn't:
The first half is lighthearted, while the second half is more serious. The mood of the movie changes quickly and dramatically, and no one sees it coming. The alteration feels a little strange, even though it was done honestly.
If you're used to the light, romantic pace of the first half, the second half could be rather emotional. The change in tone isn't unpleasant by itself, but it doesn't flow as well, which makes the total impression a little less strong.
Technicalities:
It earns kudos for being real. People in Chennai don't always speak Telugu. The directors employ Tamil dialog where they make sense, which makes the scene feel more real.
Dinesh Purushothaman, the cinematographer, filmed a lot of the movie in genuine places in Chennai. This makes the photographs more interesting and lifelike. The music adds to the romantic mood, while the editing keeps the plot moving. It's a brilliant concept to use multiple aspect ratios to represent different timelines.
Vercit:
Couple Friendly is a feel good love story that everyone can relate to, and the main performers do a great job. The first half is humorous because it appeals to young people, but the second half's sudden emotional weight makes things a little weird.
