Chinmayi Sripada has never been one to shy away from difficult conversations. Known for her honesty and her willingness to confront uncomfortable truths, the singer and dubbing artiste once again opened up about the deeply troubling harassment she has been facing online.

On Wednesday, 10 December, she revealed that a troll had sent her a morphed photograph—an act intended not only to humiliate but to frighten her into silence.

Sharing the blurred image on X (formerly Twitter), Chinmayi reached out directly to Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar.

Alongside the post, she uploaded a video in which she spoke candidly about the intensity of the online abuse directed at her and her family over the past few weeks.

Chinmayi explained that the hostility had worsened soon after her husband, actor and filmmaker Rahul Ravindran, made a comment about the mangalsutra during a film promotion. What followed, she said, was a coordinated wave of trolling.

"I got a morphed image from a page today and tagged the cops - whether legal action happen will happen or not is not the issue. But I made this video for girls and their families to safeguard against the ‘Lanja Munda’ spewing people here who have been paid to do this for the past 8-10 weeks to harass our family," she wrote.

In her video, her voice steady yet pained, she shared the emotional toll this has taken:

“I have been abused, my children have been given death threats… There were men applauding and laughing at this.” The cruelty of such remarks struck a chord with many who watched her video, particularly mothers who empathised with the fear and helplessness she described.

Chinmayi noted that this pattern of abuse is not new for her. After she spoke out against a lyricist in the past, the attacks never completely stopped. “A lot of people have abused me; they have been paid for by political groups… men do this to push us out of public spaces,” she said, revealing the painful familiarity of such targeted misogyny.

She also reflected on the broader cultural issue, saying, "This is going to be very, very common in the future… This has always been the way of society." Her warning about deepfakes and AI manipulation served as a sobering reminder of the challenges women will increasingly face online.

What sparked the trolling?

Rahul Ravindran’s remark during a November promotion of The Girlfriend acted as the catalyst. He said, "After our marriage, I told my wife Chinmayi that it was her choice whether to wear mangalsutra or not… women are expected to have one."

Though the comment was thoughtful, it angered a section of social media, unleashing unwarranted hostility towards Chinmayi.
