  • The film received mixed reviews and saw low footfall at theaters
  • Weekend performance will be crucial for Champion's box office fate

Telugu sports drama, Champion, starring Roshan Meka and Anaswara Rajan   opened in theatres on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025.

This film has been one of the long-pending projects of Telugu film industry. The movie got off to a slow start at the box office and early estimates show that the film has made about Rs 2.75 crore (nett in India) on its first day in theaters.

On Thursday, the movie's overall occupancy was about 41.97 per cent, with different levels of attendance in major cities like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vizag, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

There were fewer people at the morning and afternoon shows, but attendance picked up pace a little at the evening and night shows.

Champion comes out during a busy holiday season, with a lot of other movies in different languages coming out at the same time.

The movie's opening numbers show a lukewarm response compared to bigger holiday movies, but how well it does over the weekend and what people say about it will be very important in deciding how long it stays in theaters.

The film has received mixed reviews from people all over and has failed in impressing the audience and that has reflected in the low footfall at the theaters.

Pradeep Advaitham directed the movie, which is a mix of sports and period drama. It follows the journey of Michael, who is a talented football player and his dreams lead him into bigger conflicts during a time of great upheaval.

Champion's first weekend earnings don't look great, but the Christmas holiday crowd and the following box office days will give us a better idea of how well it will do overall.

People who follow the movie business will be very interested in how well it does for the rest of the first weekend. The movie had also received mixed response from the critics on the day of its release.
