Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda are finally wife and husband. The couple shared some beautiful moments from their wedding today on social media and fans are super happy for the duo. Here are some of the rituals followed in the process, and as per the tradition of the Telugu wedding today.
Mangala Snanam and Gouri Puja
A holy bath that takes place on the morning of the wedding. It cleans the bride and groom's bodies and minds before the ceremony. The ritual is like washing away the past and starting over. Also, in the Gouri Puja, the bride is made to worship and perform the puja for goddess lakshmi, who is also called Gouri in this particular event. It is said that maa Gouri will bless the bride to be a sumangali.
Kashi Yatra
This comes just before the main rituals of wedding where groom acts like he's giving up on the world and going to Kashi. The bride's brother talks him into coming back and agreeing to marry her instead. It stands for choosing family life over a life of strictness. While we are sure that this happened, are yet to know who did it for Rashmika.
Jeelakarra Bellam
Have you watched the 10 seconds video where Rashmika and Vijay can be seen playing with each others fingers and a cloth above the hands? What happens here is, the couple are not allowed to see each other first. They put a paste of cumin (jeelakarra) and jaggery (bellam) on each other's heads. Cumin and jaggery stand for the bitter and sweet parts of life. It shows that they promise to stay together through thick and thin.
Mangalsutra Dharana
The groom puts the sacred mangalsutra around the bride's neck. It is can be seen that Rashmika is wearing a turmeric thread around her neck with the mangalasutra. Three knots represent commitment, trust, and friendship. This is the official start of the marriage.
Ungaraala Binde (finding a ring in a pot of water)
In this fun post-wedding tradition, a ring is dropped into a pot of colored liquid, water, or milk mixed with flowers. The bride and groom look for the ring at the same time, and the first person to find it is jokingly said to "rule" the marriage. The ritual stands for working together, getting to know each other, and having fun as a couple as they start their married life.
Talambralu
They shower each other with rice and turmeric. It is a fun ritual that stands for wealth and plenty. The act means wishing each other a happy and successful life. This is an absolutely fun activity too!
Saptapadi
The couple walks around the holy fire seven times. Each step stands for a promise about love, strength, money, family, and friendship. It is thought to be the most important ceremony that makes the marriage official and spiritual.
Arundhati Nakshatram
The priest points out the star Arundhati to the couple in the night sky. In marriage, Arundhati stands for loyalty and devotion. The ceremony encourages the couple to be faithful and respect each other. We are yet to get to see the pictures from this moment though.
