Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is clearly in an expansion phase, both in scale and ambition. Riding high on the box office success of Dhurandhar, the actor is now lining up two sharply different projects that signal an interesting turn in his career graph. While one is a familiar franchise reboot, the other appears to be a genre experiment Bollywood rarely attempts.
According to a recent Mid-Day report, Ranveer’s upcoming zombie thriller, tentatively titled Pralay, is expected to go on floors in 2026, after the completion of Don 3. The Farhan Akhtar-directed Don 3 will reportedly roll first, with Ranveer stepping into the iconic role previously played by Shah Rukh Khan.
A source close to the development revealed, “Don 3, helmed by Farhan Akhtar, will roll first in 2026. After that, Ranveer will focus on Pralay. The final timeline will be locked in January after he gets his Don 3 schedule.” If things go as planned, Pralay is likely to begin shooting between July and August next year.
The film is being directed by Jai Mehta, best known for his work in the digital space. Pralay is said to use the zombie genre not just for spectacle, but as a narrative device to explore deeper themes. The story reportedly revolves around a protagonist fighting for survival in a collapsing world, where social structures, emotional bonds, and moral codes are pushed to their limits.
What sets Pralay apart is its visual ambition. The film is expected to reimagine Mumbai in a dystopian framework, drawing comparisons to The Hunger Games-style setting. “Large sections of the city will be digitally aged, to give it an abandoned look. Parts of the film will be shot in Mumbai, before moving to other locations,” the source added. Extensive VFX work is likely to play a key role in creating this post-apocalyptic atmosphere.
On the work front, Ranveer was last seen in Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar and produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The spy thriller has emerged as a major commercial success. After 10 days of its theatrical run, the film has reportedly collected Rs 351.75 crore, surpassing the lifetime collections of Gully Boy and several other notable releases.
With Don 3 promising mainstream mass appeal and Pralay venturing into uncharted territory, Ranveer Singh’s upcoming slate suggests a deliberate attempt to balance scale with experimentation.
