Bollywood actors Ranveer Singh and Kriti Sanon walked the ramp at Namo ghats in Varanasi on Sunday (April 14) in a show organised by ace designer Manish Malhotra.

The theme of the show was ‘Banarasi saree - A tapestry of Indian culture & Craftsmen’.

National Award-winner Kriti Sanon was dressed in red bridal Banarasi wear. She wore a bindi and huge maang tika as she walked the ramp with Ranveer Singh.

Several videos of the show have been shared on social media. Manish Malhotra had also shared a picture on his Instagram story after the show.

While speaking with news agency ANI after the show, Kriti said Kashi (Varanasi) has transformed in the years physically and looks more beautiful but its essence has remained the same. Kriti said she was blessed to have come to the holy city and walk the ramp to represent our Indian culture and heritage.

“Banarasi Saree is an important part of our heritage. Manish (Malhotra) had designed the Banarasi saree then for me while taking my National Award and today on this show, I am wearing this bridal outfit by him again in Kashi. This is such a beautiful outfit which doesn’t have any embroidery on it. It has only handwork done on it. Banarasi is woven on the loom and it is all handmade, one saree takes days and then it is unique. So Banarasi is our actual heritage and culture. I feel this should reach and be showcased outside India. I am really honoured that I was a part of this initiative ‘Vikas Bhi Virasat Bhi.”

Ranveer Singh, who was seen in ethnic wear by Manish Malhotra, said: “Aaj mandir mein sabki Aankhen chamak rahi thi, that is the power, the energy that is held between this spiritually special place.”

Ranveer greeted all those present at the ghats for their show.

Manish Malhotra also said that it was a very special show for him. He had also met the weavers before the show. He said he likes to see the aarti in the morning on the ghats.

Manish said he was very nervous ahead of the show, as in general his shows have a lot of glamour and sequins, embroidery. But at times we hide between those embroideries. This time the focus was on handloom and show the work of the weavers,” he told ANI.

Earlier on Sunday, both Kriti and Ranveer had offered prayers at the Kashi  Vishwanath temple.

This fashion event was quite significant, with politicians from more than 20 countries in attendance, highlighting its international stature.
