In one of the latest interviews, Rakesh Roshan opened up about feeling scared back in 2000 after he was attacked by gangsters from Budesh gang following the release of Kaho Na Pyaar Hai.
In conversation with news agency ANI, Rakesh Roshan recalled that difficult time in his life when he was so scared of even his guards thinking that one of them might kill him. “No matter how much security personnel is around you, you are still an open target. If someone wants to harm you, security personnel won’t be able to do anything.
Rakesh Roshan further said that following the incident, the government had assigned him two armed security guards.
He would sit in the front of the car while they sat in the back, and this only heightened his fear. "Woh do peeche baithe hain bandook ke saath. Kabhi kuch ho jaye voh peeche se na mujhe maar dein (Those two are sitting behind me with a gun. If something happens, they can kill me),” he continued.
The Koi Mil Gaya director also shared that over time, he began feeling claustrophobic due to his security detail. He recalled how the guards would accompany him even during his walks on the beach, leaving him unsettled. Eventually, he requested the security cover to be removed, expressing his preference to live without it and take things as they come.
Rakesh Roshan survived an assassination attempt when two assailants opened fire at him near his office in Santacruz, Mumbai on January 21, 2000. One bullet struck his left arm, while another grazed his chest. He was rushed into emergency surgery and made a full recovery. Subsequent police investigations revealed that the attack was orchestrated by the Budesh gang, reportedly due to a dispute over extortion demands.
For those unversed, he also recently announced that he will not be directing Krrish 4, confirming that a new filmmaker will take over the franchise. He expressed no regrets about his decision, stating that he believes in handing over the reins while he can still be involved in the process.
