Parth Samthaan reacts to trolling

Television actor Parth Samthaan has recently opened up about stepping into one of Indian television’s most iconic roles — replacing Shivaji Satam as the lead in the long-running crime drama CID. In a candid interview, Parth shared the emotional weight and responsibility that comes with taking on a character so deeply rooted in the hearts of fans, particularly after Satam’s legendary portrayal of ACP Pradyuman for over two decades.

Speaking with India Forums, Parth acknowledged the challenges and fan reactions he's encountered since the announcement, noting, “It’s a huge responsibility. I recently shot with Shivaji Sir, and it was a fantastic experience. At 75, his energy and dedication are incredible. He’s been consistent in his role for over two decades, and that’s truly commendable.”

However, while Parth was prepared for some level of scepticism from viewers, the volume of trolling came as a surprise. He admitted, “Honestly, I didn’t expect the trolling to be this intense. I understand where it’s coming from. Even I have been a fan of Shivaji Sir and the original characters. If I were in the viewers’ place, I’d probably feel the same seeing someone new step into such a loved role.”

Despite the backlash, Parth remains committed to honouring the legacy of CID while also bringing a fresh perspective to the character. He explained that his role as ACP Ayushman has been crafted with purpose, and his introduction will add new layers to the show’s narrative. “I’ve come to CID with a purpose, and that will be revealed through the storyline. Right now, Ayushman doesn’t share a bond with other officers, and that tension will play out. Replacing a legend is never easy. I’m not here to fill his shoes but to bring something new while respecting the legacy.”

For those who don't know, Shivaji Satam's ACP Pradyuman played a major role in CID, a program that was incredibly popular due to its captivating investigations and catchy catchphrases. A significant change occurred with Satam's departure, and the show has since taken a dramatic turn with an engaging plot centred on the search for Barbosa, the man responsible for Pradyuman's murder. Drama and intrigue are abundant given the emotional toll of this betrayal and the developing relationship between the new leadership and the seasoned CID team.

In a previous conversation with Hindustan Times, Parth also revealed that he initially declined the role, hesitant to take on a character so steeped in television history. “Initially, I rejected the role of ACP Pradyuman, because I don’t relate to it. But the makers asked me to reconsider. I was also hesitant due to the show’s long-standing cast and the fact that they’d have to address me as ‘sir’ on screen. It felt a bit unusual and awkward.”

This disclosure highlights Parth's modest approach to the position. He is trying to create a new character arc that appeals to a contemporary audience while preserving the spirit of the original series, as opposed to trying to imitate his predecessor.

Everyone is watching Parth Samthaan closely as CID enters this new stage to see how he handles this enormous legacy. He may surprise doubters and revitalise one of the most cherished franchises on Indian television with his unique combination of sincerity, reverence for the past, and a clear vision for the future.
