The fictional world of KPop Demon Hunters has spilled gloriously into reality. After weeks of fan anticipation, the in-movie track Golden by the girl group Huntr/x has officially reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making history as the first K-pop girl group song to claim the top spot. The moment mirrors the film’s plot so perfectly that fans are calling it a “real-life Honmoon sealing.”
On August 12, Netflix confirmed the milestone via social media, declaring:
“GOLDEN IS GOING UP, UP, UP, TO NO. 1 ON THE BILLBOARD HOT 100. HUNTR/X (EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI) have officially sealed the Honmoon.”
According to Billboard, Golden drew nearly 32 million official streams in the first week of August, cementing its spot at the summit. This marks the ninth time a K-pop act has topped the Hot 100, and notably, the very first for female artists.
Released on June 20, KPop Demon Hunters quickly became Netflix’s most-watched animated film of the year. While its soundtrack brims with hits — from Saja Boys’ Your Idol to bangers like Takedown, Soda Pop, Free, What It Sounds Like, and Strategy — Golden has emerged as the cultural breakout.
What makes this chart-topping moment uncanny is how closely it mirrors the movie’s storyline. In the film, Huntr/x are a legendary K-pop trio tasked with protecting the world from demons. Their main mission? To strengthen a mystical barrier called the Honmoon through the power of their music, eventually turning it into a “Golden Honmoon” that can permanently banish dark forces. Now, in real life, their song Golden has “sealed” its place in music history — a perfect meta twist for fans and filmmakers alike.

What is the Honmoon?
Within the movie’s lore, the Honmoon is a soul gate inspired by Korean mythology, separating the human world from the demon realm. It thrives on the emotional and sonic energy of the demon hunters’ songs. Over generations, these hunters — in this era, Huntr/x — have used their voices as weapons to keep the gates intact. Achieving a “Golden Honmoon” is the ultimate victory, both in the story and now symbolically in the charts.
Directed by Maggie Kang and featuring an all-star voice cast including Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun, KPop Demon Hunters has proven that the magic of music knows no borders — or dimensions.
