Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh has announced that he is stepping down as brand ambassador of “The Universal Idol” linked to HMC Events, citing serious payment issues and urging fellow artists to stay alert.

In a formal statement, Neil said he is withdrawing from all current and future associations with Universal Idol, HMC Events, and Mr. Shakeel Hassan with immediate effect. The actor alleged that despite repeated assurances, his agreed dues were not cleared. He further revealed that three cheques issued towards his payment were returned unpaid. Calling it a serious breach of trust and commitment, Neil made it clear that he could no longer continue the association under such circumstances.

According to his note, both he and his team made multiple follow-ups and gave several opportunities to resolve the matter amicably. He stated that he had hoped for a smooth settlement without escalation. However, with the issue allegedly remaining unresolved, he decided to formally sever ties.

Importantly, Neil’s statement was not limited to his own experience. He issued a word of caution to fellow artists, partners, vendors and collaborators in the entertainment industry. Stressing the need for transparency and due diligence, he advised others to be mindful of payment commitments and contractual assurances before entering into professional engagements. He also stated that he reserves the right to pursue remedies available under the law.

While the controversy has made headlines, Neil recently had a positive career announcement as well. On his 44th birthday, he revealed that he will be making his Malayalam film debut in Khalifa, directed by Vysakh. The film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role as Aamir Ali. Neil shared his excitement about “going for gold” as he steps into the Malayalam industry after working across Hindi, Tamil and Telugu cinema.

Khalifa is described as a high-octane revenge drama set against a sprawling multi-million-dollar gold smuggling racket operating out of the Middle East, with links stretching from London and Nepal to Kerala. The teaser hints at intense interrogation sequences, customs crackdowns and references to the COFEPOSA Act, building strong anticipation among fans. The film also marks Vysakh’s reunion with Prithviraj, 15 years after their 2010 hit Pokkiri Raja.
