Veteran Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan has been accused in a shocking new complaint by his first wife, 61-year-old Ranjana Narayan Jha, who alleges that her uterus was surgically removed decades ago without her knowing or consenting to the procedure.
Ranjana filed her complaint on February 10 at the Women’s Police Station in Supaul district, Bihar, naming Narayan, his two brothers — Sanjay Kumar Jha and Lalit Narayan Jha — and his current wife, Deepa Narayan, as respondents in the case.
In her written submission, Ranjana said she and Udit were married on December 7, 1984, according to Hindu customs, shortly before he moved to Mumbai in 1985 to pursue his singing career. She claimed that media reports later revealed he had married Deepa, and that he repeatedly misled her when she questioned him about it.
Central to her complaint is an allegation from 1996, when she alleges that Udit Narayan, his brothers, and Deepa took her to a major hospital in Delhi under the pretext of providing medical treatment.
Ranjana says she was not informed about the nature of the surgery and only learned years later, during unrelated medical treatment, that her uterus had been removed.
She described this as part of a criminal conspiracy, asserting she was not given proper consent or explanation before the procedure.
As quoted by NDTV, she said, "You all know that Udit Narayan ji repeatedly makes promises but does not fulfil them. He has not done anything till now, which is why I have come to the Women's Police Station. I deserve justice."
"When we went to the Women's Commission, they initially refused to accept our complaint. After we submitted a written application, it was accepted. But even today, he continues to deceive me. Whenever he comes to the village, he makes the same promises again," she added.
"Nowadays, I am constantly unwell and need his support. But Udit Narayan is neither saying anything nor doing anything. He came to the village recently and left after making promises once again," she claimed.
Ranjana further said, "The case is also going on in court. Udit ji appeared there, but till now he has done nothing."
Ranjana also alleges that she has endured neglect, abuse, and broken promises of support over the years. She said that when she visited Mumbai and later her in-laws’ home in Nepal, she was denied entry and mistreated. Attempts at legal resolution, including earlier proceedings in family court and the Women’s Commission, did not yield the support she sought, she claims.
Police officials have confirmed receipt of the complaint and said the matter is under investigation, with a formal First Information Report (FIR) to be registered based on further inquiry. Authorities noted that the events cited are nearly three decades old, complicating the probe.
