Miley Cyrus recently opened up about her 2024 Grammy win for her smash hit pop number ‘Flowers.’ She reflected on how after a career that has spanned two decades, this was the first time she was “actually being taken seriously” at the Grammy Awards.
In the interview, she discussed her taking home not just one Grammy award but two — for record of the year and best pop solo performance — after being in the industry for 20 years.
“No shade, but I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and this is my first time actually being taken seriously at the Grammys? I’ve had a hard time figuring out what the measurement is there, because if we want to talk stats and numbers, then where the fuck was I? And if you want to talk, like, impact on culture, then where the fuck was I? This is not about arrogance. I am proud of myself,” Miley Cyrus told W Magazine.
“People have 50- or 60-year-long careers, but mine has been close to 20 years, and I’m 31. I have been in the public for more of my life than I haven’t. They say that the creative adult is the child who survived. I worked really hard as a child,” she added.
She continued, “I didn’t go to prom. I didn’t go to dances. I didn’t have so much of that social experience or time for friends. Disney, they were doing very well off of the amount of work that I was putting in as a child. I don’t have any bad feelings about that. It’s just the truth. And so I think they have to give me this award.”
Cyrus’ last album ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ was a huge hit with her lead single ‘Flowers’ being the best selling global single of 2023. The record earned a lot of critical acclaim and nominations with the most notable being Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammys, ‘Flowers’ was nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The track ‘Thousand Miles’ featuring Brandie Carlile also received a Best Pop Duo/Group Performance nomination.
Before ‘ESV’ Cyrus had only been nominated twice in 2015 for Pop Vocal Album for ‘Bangerz,’ and in 2022 as part of Lil Nas X’s album ‘Montero.’
Miley Cyrus was the talk of the town after her Grammys performance of ‘Flowers.’ The singer reminded the world of her legendary stage presence and her delightful nature. The ‘Mileyness’ jumped out during her performance when she addressed the audience and said, “Why are you acting like you don’t know this song?” Her performance at the Grammys was the most watched performance of the evening.
Speaking about the performance, Miley said that she wanted it “to be a celebration of bravery, because I perform out of fear.”
