On May 27, 2024, aespa held a showcase event for their much-anticipated comeback with the new album 'Armageddon'. The showcase featured a rousing performance by the group, capturing the energy and excitement surrounding their return to the music scene.
During the interview segment of the showcase, reporters brought up a recent trending topic involving HYBE's founder, Bang Si Hyuk, and ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin. Leaked text messages between Bang Si Hyuk and Min Hee Jin had surfaced, where Bang Si Hyuk had provocatively suggested that Min Hee Jin "crush aespa." This exchange quickly became an internet meme and a hot topic of discussion among fans and the media.
Despite the potentially stressful context, aespa handled the situation with poise. When asked if this controversy added pressure to their preparations, Karina responded with grace and humour. She acknowledged the situation, but emphasised the group's dedication and hard work in preparing for their first full-length album. Karina expressed gratitude for the support and love from their fans, the public, their SM family, and her fellow group members, confidently stating that they were aiming for a successful debut with 'Armageddon'.
"We know all about the matter. Since it’s our first full-length album, we gave our all in practicing. We gained strength from the support and love [we received] and worked hard to prepare for it. I think it’ll be a satisfactory start with this first full-length album, so I am thankful for the public, as well as for our SM family and the members who have worked hard," she said.
Winter also chimed in, suggesting that rather than being bogged down by the controversy, they chose to view it as a sign that their album would be successful.
The showcase, combined with their calm and confident responses to the controversy, underscored aespa's professionalism and commitment to their craft. Fans can check out the teaser for the title track of 'Armageddon' right here:
