Madhuri Dixit is stepping into one of the darkest roles of her career with Mrs Deshpande, a psychological thriller series directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. The trailer, released on December 1, has generated strong early interest, presenting the actor in a chilling, layered performance as a convicted serial killer assisting police in tracking down a copycat.
The trailer opens with a striking visual: Madhuri Dixit singing Bholi Si Surat moments before committing a murder. The sequence immediately establishes the unsettling contrast between her gentle appearance and her violent instincts. It then cuts to her character behind bars, calmly stating that if she is imprisoned, someone else must be replicating her crimes. The teaser sets the tone for a tense, character-driven thriller centred on deception, trauma and long-buried secrets.
Mrs Deshpande is serving a 25-year prison sentence when authorities approach her for help after a new killer begins recreating her signature crimes. The series is the official Indian adaptation of the French show La Mante and weaves elements of investigative drama with emotional conflict.
A key twist in the story is the condition Mrs Deshpande places before cooperating with the police. She will assist only if she is allowed to work with her estranged son, now a police detective. The reunion forces both characters to confront unresolved issues and a traumatic past, adding a personal dimension to the ongoing manhunt.
The trailer highlights the strained relationship between mother and son, juxtaposed with the tension of identifying the copycat killer. It also emphasises Mrs Deshpande’s dual nature, contrasting her soft-spoken demeanour with her chilling capability for violence. Themes of identity, inherited trauma and the psychological imprint of violence run throughout the narrative.
The series features Madhuri Dixit-Nene in the lead role, with Siddharth Chandekar expected to portray her son. Priyanshu Chatterjee appears in a significant supporting part. The project is backed by Applause Entertainment and marks another collaboration between the studio and director Nagesh Kukunoor.
Mrs Deshpande is scheduled to premiere on JioHotstar on December 19, 2025. With a compelling premise, a proven director and a gripping central performance, the series is positioned as one of the major OTT releases of the month.
