Along with the April heat, there’s also going to be a lot of buzz in the cinemas. From quirky romcoms to action-thrillers and a dollop of horror, April at the movies is all about non-stop entertainment! Here’s a look at the big theatrical releases of the coming month:
Family Star (Telugu) – April 5
Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur star in this fun family drama directed by Parasuram Petla. The film’s trailer hints at Deverakonda’s working-class hero’s life undergoing a change when he meets Thakur’s character. The movie promises to have some fun, romantic moments between the leads and is a family entertainer. This is also Petla and Deverakonda’s second collaboration post Geetha Govindam and Thakur’s third Telugu film post the success of Sita Ramam and Hi Nanna.
JNU: Jahangir National University (Hindi) – April 5
Director Vinay Sharma’s film JNU: Jahangir National University stars Urvashi Rautela, Siddharth Badke, Piyush Mishra, Ravi Kishan and Vijay Raaz among others. Rautela had shared the film’s poster on her Instagram page which shows a saffron map of India with the text, ‘Can an educational university break the nation?’ The film focusses on the life of a student studying at the university.
The First Omen (English) – April 5
A prequel to 1976’s The Omen, the upcoming supernatural horror film follows an American woman sent to work at a church in Rome and who discovers a conspiracy to bring about the birth of the Antichrist. The film is directed by Arkasha Stevenson and is the sixth film in The Omen franchise.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (Hindi) – April 5
Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff have been busy promoting their forthcoming action-thriller on their respective social media accounts. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the plot revolves around a conspiracy by a scientist to destroy India using Artificial Intelligence. Kumar and Shroff take on the mission to recover the stolen weapon from the bad guys.
Maidaan (Hindi) – April 10
Starring Ajay Devgn as pioneering football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, Maidaan focusses on India’s football era between the decade of 1952 and 1962. Directed by Amit Sharma, the film also stars Priyamani and is produced by Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios. The movie aims to capture the challenges, sacrifices and triumphs of Rahim and the Indian football team.
Do Aur Do Pyaar (Hindi) – April 19
The unusual casting of this upcoming romcom has already made people curious about the movie. Starring Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, Ileana D’Cruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy, the film seeks to provide a fresh perspective on marital relationships. The quirky romcom has been directed by Shirsha Guha Thakurta.
