Kangana Ranaut starrer 'Emergency' has finally received a new release date after several delays. Originally set to premiere on June 14, 2024, the film's release was postponed due to various ongoing controversies.
'Emergency' is a high-budget portrayal of one of the most controversial events in the history of Indian democracy. At the heart of the story is one of the most iconic leaders of all time—India's first woman Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi.
Taking to her X account, Kangana Ranaut has released an announcement regarding the film.
In addition to unveiling the poster, the actress has announced that the film will officially release on January 17, 2025.
The caption read, "17th January 2025 – The epic saga of the nation’s most powerful woman and the moment that altered India’s destiny. #Emergency – Unveils Only in cinemas on 17.01.2025! @KanganaTeam @AnupamPKher #SatishKaushik @shreyastalpade1 #MahimaChaudhry @milindrunning #VishakNair @nishantpitti #UmeshKrBansal @ZeeStudios_@zeecinema@ZeeMusicCompany@MrSheetalsharma #AkshtRanaut @writish @gvprakash @manojmuntashir @sanchitbalhara@ankitbalhara

In 'Emergency', Kangana not only plays the lead role but also takes on the responsibilities of director, writer, and producer. The film features a stellar cast, including Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, and Shreyas Talpade. Shreyas Talpade portrays Atal Bihari Vajpayee, while Anupam Kher plays Jayaprakash Narayan. The late actor Satish Kaushik is seen in the role of former Deputy Prime Minister of India, Jagjivan Ram.
Originally slated for release in October–November 2023, the film was later rescheduled to June 14, 2024. However, it was postponed again due to the Lok Sabha elections. The release was subsequently set for September 6, 2024.
The film's certificate has recently surfaced on social media, revealing that its runtime has been shortened from 147 minutes to 146 minutes. This suggests that the cuts made to the film total just one minute.
On August 30, 2024, Kangana Ranaut alleged that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) was withholding a certificate for the film, possibly due to external pressures. Additionally, the Government of Telangana contemplated imposing a ban on the film following objections from members of the Sikh community. As a result, the film's release was further delayed.
On October 17, 2024, Kangana Ranaut took to social media to announce that the film had finally been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
