Spanish actress Elsa Pataky does double duty in George Miller’s ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’. Not only did she play two characters, the actress pulled off playing two completely different characters.
‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ spoilers ahead.
The film starts with a few men from Dementus’ clan finding the Green Place of Many Mothers and Furiosa trying to stop them during which they abduct her. Furiosa’s mother, played by Charlee Fraser, runs after them with Elsa Pataky’s character, Vuvalini General.
Her first character was responsible and brave but the next time we see Pataky in ‘Furiosa’ is when she is playing Mr. Norton, who is everything but that.
Mr. Norton wants to be an important member of the ruthless biker gang run by the self proclaimed ‘Great’ Dementus, who is played by Elsa’s real life husband Chris Hemsworth. We are introduced to Pataky’s second character during a scene wherein Dementus wants to punish someone. He chains the person with 5 bikes and chooses a bunch of his gang members to showcase their strength and fight each other off to sit on one of the bikes. Pataky’s horrid character fought off members to take her seat on the bike.
Her character’s face is disfigured and gross and she’s merciless and Pataky did an awesome job at making us hate her.
But she isn’t the only one who played two characters on ‘Furiosa’.
Australian actor Lachy Hulme also donned on two costumes for ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ wherein he played a member of Dementus’ biker gang, Rizzdale Pell. Later in the film he returned to the screen wearing the iconic mask of Immortan Joe.
Immortan Joe was played by Hugh Keays-Byrne in ‘Fury Road’ before he passed away in 2022. Lachy Hulme stepped up to take the iconic role after him.
The double duty phenomenon in ‘Mad Max’ doesn’t end there, Hugh Keays-Byrne himself played two roles. He joined the franchise as Toecutter in the 1979 ‘Mad Max’ and then returned to the saga to play Immortan Joe in the 2015 ‘Fury Road’.
