  • Popcorn to be offered at Rs 19 on National Popcorn Day, Jan 19, 2026
  • Cinema footfalls in 2025 were lowest in a decade, excluding pandemic years

Audience who watched movies in Cinepolis India theatres purchased nearly 5 million popcorn tubs across its circuit last year.

This translates to around 570 tubs sold every hour, or 10 tubs every minute. In overall volumes, the cinema chain sold 12,000 tonnes of popcorn during the year, according to Cinepolis India's 2025 popcorn consumption data released on January 16.

To mark National Popcorn Day on January 19, 2026, Cinepolis will offer popcorn at Rs 19 across all locations nationwide. The campaign extends with 'Popcorn Happy Hour' from January 20 to January 31, featuring a Buy One Get One Free offer on popcorn.

“Popcorn is the official movie partner, and at Cinepolis, it is the sensory anchor of the cinema experience. With the Rs 19 offer on National Popcorn Day and the extended Happy Hour, we are making it easier for audiences to add that to their visit, without compromising on quality. Our 2025 data also helps us understand what patrons are choosing, so we can keep improving the menu and the overall experience,” said, Devang Sampat, Managing Director, Cinepolis India.

The initiative is part of Cinepolis India’s FOOVIES framework, which positions food and beverage as integral to the cinema experience through curated offerings, value campaigns, and data-driven menu development.

In October 2024, multiplex chain Mukta A2 Cinemas, a theatre chain by film production company Mukta Arts, had capped the cost of food and beverage in its cinemas at Rs 99.

By making food and beverages more affordable, the cinema chain aims to remove one of the most common deterrents (F&B prices in theatres) for moviegoers, the company had said.

The exorbitant F&B cost as well as high ticket prices in multiplex chains have been a bone contention not only for audiences but many others in the film industry. Filmmaker Karan Johar had also highlighted the high ticket and food prices saying that they are deterring audiences from going to the theatres. He had noted that for a family of four, a trip to the movies can cost around Rs 10,000 at multiplexes.

Mukta A2 Cinemas' Chief Operating Officer at the time of the offer launch had said that one of the growing concerns remains decreasing footfalls in theatres post-Covid and that they hope their offer will encourage more people to visit the cinemas.

In 2025, cinema footfalls at 83.2 crore remained the lowest in the last decade excluding pandemic years ---2020 and 2021.
