Mika Singh calls out Filmfare Awards for overlooking Sonu Nigam in favour of Ayushmann Khurrana: 'Usko bulake jaleel karne ka koi fayda nahi hain '

He remarked that he struggles to understand the logic behind how winners are chosen at these shows.

Singer Mika Singh, who rarely attends award ceremonies, recently expressed his reservations about the credibility of such events.

In a candid conversation with host Subhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, Mika questioned the fairness of award selections, referencing an instance where Sonu Nigam, despite delivering a superior song, was passed over at the Filmfare Awards in favour of Ayushmann Khurrana.

He remarked that he struggles to understand the logic behind how winners are chosen at these shows.

He said, “I have given numerous hit songs but have never received a nomination. The reason is that years ago, around 2011, I had shared the message that whichever song might be a hit… kindly do not keep it for a nomination. It hurts when a song which has not been such a hit ends up winning.”

He then recalled one such instance that happened few years ago during an award show and stated, "Jaise Sonu saab ka gaana bohot achcha tha. Abhi Mujhe Main Kahin. Dusre taraf mera chota bhai Ayushmann Khurrana, uska gaana aya tha, Paani da. Toh woh Filmfare award Ayushmann ko mil gaya. Toh ab ye janta hain ya ye bika hua hain ya khareeda hua hain I don't understand. Par banta Sonu Nigam se tha. Kahi na kahi award function waalo ko ye bhi dhyaan rakhna chahiye ki theek 2-5 gaane hit hain lekin ek jo legend hain usko respect karo ya phir usko bulao hi mat, woh jyada better hain. Usko bulake jaleel karne ka koi fayda nahi hain (Like Sonu saab’s song ‘Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin’ was really good. On the other hand, my younger brother Ayushmann Khurrana had a song, ‘Paani Da’. And the Filmfare Award went to Ayushmann. Now whether the public understands this or whether it’s all sold out or bought, I don’t know. But the award truly belonged to Sonu Nigam. Somewhere, award function organizers also need to consider that sure, a few songs might be hits, but if someone is a legend, they deserve respect. Or better yet, don’t invite them at all—that would be more respectful. There’s no point in calling someone just to humiliate them).

For those unaware, during 2013 Filmfare Awards Sonu Nigam was nominated for film Agneepath's song Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin. The award was eventually bagged by Ayushmann Khurrana for the song Paani Da from Vicky Donor.
