Malayalam cinema has found its new sensation in Lokah Chapter One – Chandra. The film stars Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen and has become the country’s first homegrown female superhero film. It is not just winning hearts but also creating waves at the box office.
Lokah which released opposite star-studded projects featuring Mohanlal and Fahadh Faasil, could have easily been overshadowed but it has raced ahead with remarkable momentum, proving that fresh storyline and strong performances can hold their own against big names.
Produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films on a modest budget, the film has already been making waves at the box office and is making a special place in cinema history. Not only is it on track to become Kerala’s highest-grossing woman-led film, but it also marks the exciting beginning of a new superhero cinematic universe.
The numbers tell the story of its phenomenal rise. According to a trading site, on Day 1, the film earned Rs 3.2 crore, but it was evident to see that the word-of-mouth quickly kicked in. Collections climbed to Rs 4.5 crore on Day 2, before the film exploded on Sunday, doubling its business to touch Rs 9 crore. The streak continued on Day 4, when Lokah raked in Rs 11.3 crore, bringing the extended opening weekend total to an impressive Rs 28 crore.
Of this, Kerala itself contributed ₹16 crore, while other Indian states added ₹12 crore — proof that the film is resonating well beyond its home market.
Day-wise collections:
Day 1: Rs 3.20 crore
Day 2: Rs 4.50 crore
Day 3: Rs 9.00 crore
Day 4: Rs 11.30 crore (estimated)
Total: Rs 28 crore

The film’s box office collection has left competitors like Hridayapoorvam and Odum Kuthira Chadum Kuthira trailing behind. If this pace continues, Lokah Chapter One – Chandra could surpass the lifetime earnings of Keerthy Suresh’s Mahanati, cementing its place as the biggest female-led hit in Kerala.
For audiences, though, the numbers are only half the story. The thrill lies in seeing a woman superhero headline a mainstream Malayalam blockbuster — something rarely attempted before. With theatres still packed and ticket sales rising, Lokah is more than a film; it feels like the start of a movement.
