Veteran trot singer Seol Woon Do recently drew laughter and attention after he candidly shared his unexpected reason for having a “complaint” about BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Bruno Mars’ hit collaboration APT. The seasoned singer opened up during the December 25 episode of MBC’s popular entertainment talk show Radio Star, where he appeared as a guest and spoke honestly about his evolving musical journey after more than four decades in the industry.

During the broadcast, Seol Woon Do, who has been active as a singer for 44 years, discussed how he continues to stay relevant in an industry increasingly dominated by global K-pop acts. Host Kim Gook Jin asked him, “Seol Woon Do, a singer of 44 years, have you found a way to continue even longer?” To this, the veteran artist replied thoughtfully, “K-Pop is loved worldwide right now. There’s no law against our K-Trot also being loved globally. So, I’m trying to create songs that fit the times.”

During the show, Seol Woon Do unexpectedly mentioned Rosé and Bruno Mars’ song APT. He said, “Honestly, I had complaints about the song APT. I like Yoon Soo Il’s Apartment song, and we’ve sung it a lot. But times have changed. It’s no longer the era of apartments; it’s the era of officetels.”

He humorously tied the song’s theme to shifting lifestyles in modern Korea. “Nowadays, there are many singles. Economically and lifestyle-wise, living in an officetel suits singles better than apartments. Do you know how many singles there are in Korea? Now I’m totally into Seol Woon Do’s song Officetel. Our music won’t develop if we keep singing only about apartments,” he explained, drawing laughter from the studio.

Host Kim Gook Jin, however, offered a deadpan response, quipping, “They went crazy, but why don’t we know about it?” The moment became even funnier when Seol Woon Do was later asked to sing a line from Officetel, only to realise he couldn’t remember the lyrics, sending the cast and audience into fits of laughter.
