  • Eric of THE BOYZ wrote New Year's letters in 7 languages for global fans
  • He chose languages from countries where tour stops were canceled last year
  • Fans praised Eric's sincerity and annual tradition at Namsan Tower

THE BOYZ member Eric has sparked massive online reactions after a deeply personal New Year’s gesture for fans went viral. The idol recently crossed over 80000 views online after fans shared details of the handwritten New Year’s letters he prepared, drawing attention not just for the effort involved but for the emotional reasoning behind them.

What stood out most to fans was Eric’s decision to write letters in seven different languages, a rare and time-consuming effort even by K-pop standards. The letters were meant for THE BOYZ’s global fandom. Eric personally ensured that international fans felt included and appreciated. According to fans, the idol revealed that he spent the entire night working on the letters so that each message could be written thoughtfully in the respective languages.

Eric also reportedly took public transportation to Namsan Tower, where he left a letter for fans as part of his annual tradition. Longtime fans were quick to note that this was not a one-off event. Eric has consistently marked special occasions by placing symbolic messages or locks at Namsan Tower.

However, it was Eric’s explanation for choosing specific languages that truly struck an emotional chord online. In his message, he revealed that the languages he selected were tied to countries where THE BOYZ had to cancel tour stops the previous year, something that clearly weighed heavily on him.

“And if you look at the languages of the letters I wrote, they are the places that, unfortunately, had the tour canceled last year. It still weighs heavily on my heart, and writing a letter in that country’s language was the least I could do for the fans,” Eric shared.

The countries he mentioned including Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia immediately became a focal point of discussion. Fans from those regions expressed gratitude for being remembered despite the canceled schedules. Many noted that idols rarely address tour cancellations so directly, let alone acknowledge the disappointment fans may have felt.

Netizens were quick to praise Eric’s sincerity, with comments highlighting both his emotional intelligence and long-term dedication to fans. Reactions included, “Our maknae prepares an event for us every year,” and “Such a filial boy our Eric.” Others emphasised his consistency, writing, “He doesn’t just shine for a moment, but is someone consistent,” and “It’s not the first time he put a lock at Namsan Tower, he does it every year.”

Several fans went as far as to say that gestures like this are what create lasting loyalty. “Such sincerity…if I were a fan, I’d support him forever,” one comment read, while another simply stated, “Daebak!”
