Netflix’s global hit Squid Game has once again captured the hearts of critics, winning Best  Foreign  Language Series at the 31st annual Critics Choice Awards in Los Angeles.

This is a remarkable third win for the Korean original, which first took home the honour in 2022 for its debut season and again in 2025 for its second. For fans and creators alike, it’s a testament to how the series continues to resonate around the world.

The awards ceremony, held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, celebrates outstanding work across both television and film.

For Squid Game, the third season’s success shows that the story of high-stakes survival and human emotion still strikes a chord with audiences, long after the first red‑light/green‑light game captured imaginations everywhere.

Season three picks up immediately where the second left off, plunging viewers back into the tense, unpredictable world of the deadly game.

Lee Jung-jae’s Gi-hun is at the centre of it all. After a failed rebellion and the devastating loss of his comrades, he is consumed by guilt and rage, determined to destroy the game from within. His journey is as gripping and heart-wrenching as ever, reminding viewers why they fell in love with the character in the first place.

Meanwhile, director Park Chan-wook’s film No Other Choice, nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film, did not take home the latter award. That honour went to the Brazilian political thriller The Secret Agent, reflecting the rich diversity of global storytelling recognised at this year’s Critics Choice Awards.

The winner for Best Adapted Screenplay is yet to be announced.

Other categories saw Netflix’s animated series KPop Demon Hunters and its soundtrack "Golden" in contention, though the results in these categories are still pending.

These nominations underscore the growing influence of international streaming content, showing that talent and creativity know no borders.
