Netflix is doubling down on its belief in Korean storytelling, unveiling an ambitious 2026 slate that reflects just how far Korean content has travelled—and how much further it is expected to go.
From globally anticipated dramas to much-loved reality shows, the streaming giant’s latest announcement feels less like a business update and more like a celebration of a cultural movement.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Kang Dong-han, Vice President of Netflix Korea, took a moment to reflect on the journey so far. “If someone had said 10 years ago that Korean content would become the global center of the industry and people worldwide would wear costumes from Korean dramas and sing K-pop-themed animation soundtracks, they would have called it a dream,” he said, capturing the sense of disbelief many once felt about Korea’s global rise.
That dream, however, is now firmly a reality. Kang Dong-han reiterated Netflix’s confidence in Korean creators and stories, promising continuity rather than short-term success. “We promise a long-term and unwavering investment in Korean content because we have a firm belief in its potential,” he said, signalling that Netflix sees Korean storytelling as central to its future.
Leading the 2026 drama lineup is Boyfriend on Demand, a romantic comedy starring BLACKPINK’s Jisoo as a webtoon producer who turns to a virtual dating simulation to cope with the exhaustion of everyday life.
She stars opposite Seo In-guk in what is already shaping up to be one of the year’s most talked-about pairings.
Veteran actor Choi Min-sik will also make his Netflix debut with Notes from the Last Row, a tense psychological drama about a struggling writer-turned-professor whose fascination with a gifted student takes a dark turn.
Beloved series are also making their return. Bloodhounds is set for a second season, with Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-yi reprising their roles, while Jung Ji-hoon joins as a formidable new antagonist. Another standout project, The Rat, starring Ryu Jun-yeol and Sul Kyung-gu, explores identity and isolation through the lens of a haunting folk tale.
Stars including Jeon Do-yeon, Nam Joo-hyuk, and Son Ye-jin attended the event, while Park Eun-bin addressed the absence of Cha Eun-woo, who is currently completing his military service. “Cha Eun-woo has gone to fulfill his military duty and I'm sure he's doing well wherever he is. I wish we could promote the show together, but since I'll be doing it alone, I hope he returns in glory,” she said warmly.
Netflix’s reality slate also drew attention, with returning favourites like Single’s Inferno and Culinary Class Wars. Judge Anh Sung-jae expressed excitement for the upcoming season, saying, “I know many chefs are applying for the third season and I am also looking forward to it.” Reflecting on its success, he added, “The 100 chefs who appeared in Season 2 were so charming and talented at cooking. It was also fun to watch the show as a viewer.”
