Basketball player Lee Kwan Hee, who gained wider recognition through his appearance on Single’s Inferno 3, has recently found himself under intense scrutiny after comments he made about fellow entertainer Hong Jin Kyung left many viewers uncomfortable.

What began as a casual reaction video has now turned into a broader conversation about respect, tone and boundaries in the public eye.

The controversy stems from a video uploaded to Lee Kwan Hee’s YouTube channel titled “Looking for someone to watch ‘Single’s Inferno 5’ review together”. In the clip, he watches episodes of Single’s Inferno 5 alongside Yoon Ha Bin, a former castmate from Single’s Inferno 3.

As they reacted to the show, Lee Kwan Hee became visibly irritated by comments made by MC Hong Jin Kyung, and his frustration quickly spilled over into blunt remarks.

As per All Kpop, speaking candidly, Lee Kwan Hee said, “I actually wanted to say this. I don’t think Hong Jin Kyung sister really knows dating that well, and it makes me angry that she’s there giving dating advice.” When Yoon Ha Bin tried to gently offer perspective, pointing out, “Hong Jin Kyung is married and has a child, though,” Lee Kwan Hee responded defensively, “Does getting married make her better than me? I’m going to get married too.”

His comments didn’t stop there. He went on to compare Hong Jin Kyung with the other MCs, saying, “I acknowledge MCs Dex, Hanhae, and Lee Da Hee. But honestly, I don’t understand Jin Kyung sister. I don’t think she’s better at dating than I am.” Looking straight into the camera, he added, “Jin Kyung sister, I don’t think you and I match.”

Noticing the growing tension, Yoon Ha Bin attempted to ease the mood, saying, “I respect Hong Jin Kyung. Doesn’t everyone have their own style?” However, Lee Kwan Hee followed up with another remark, laughing as he said, “Jin Kyung sister, do better. You’re not funny.”

The reaction online was swift and critical. Many viewers felt the comments were unnecessarily harsh, arguing that there is a clear difference between expressing an opinion and being disrespectful.

Several netizens pointed out that MCs are hired specifically to offer commentary, and that Hong Jin Kyung has been a key part of what makes Single’s Inferno work.
