South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun celebrated his 38th birthday on February 16, and the occasion was marked with a heartfelt act of generosity led by his devoted global fanbase.

In honour of the actor’s birthday, the Kim Soo-hyun Fan Union announced on the 16th that they had donated 100 million Korean won to the Korea Heart Foundation. The contribution was made as a meaningful tribute rather than a conventional celebration, reflecting both admiration for the actor and a desire to make a tangible social impact.

According to the fan union, the entire amount will be directed toward covering surgery expenses for children suffering from heart disease who are unable to receive timely treatment due to financial constraints. The donation is expected to provide critical support to young patients and their families facing economic hardships.

The gesture carries particular emotional significance considering Kim Soo-hyun’s own health history. In the past, the actor underwent surgery for a heart-related condition.

During his initial military physical examination, he reportedly received a grade 4 rating. However, through consistent health management and follow-up examinations, he improved his condition significantly.

In 2017, he was reassessed and received a grade 1 rating, enabling him to enlist as an active duty soldier and successfully complete his mandatory military service.

Explaining the motivation behind the donation, the fan union emphasised that the initiative was not merely about celebrating his birthday but about commemorating it through purposeful giving. The decision was also inspired by the actor’s perseverance, sense of responsibility, and determination to overcome personal challenges.

They specifically selected the Korea Heart Foundation to ensure that the funds would provide practical and immediate assistance to heart disease patients in need.

A source from the fan union said, “Global fans united to commemorate actor Kim Soo-hyun’s birthday in a more meaningful way,” and added, “We hope this donation will become hope for many patients currently undergoing treatment for heart disease.” They continued, “Moving forward, we plan to continue activities that deliver positive influences to society alongside our unwavering support for the actor.”

On the professional front, Kim Soo-hyun is set to headline the upcoming Disney+ black comedy-crime thriller series Knock Off, which is scheduled for release later this year. The actor is widely recognized for his performances in acclaimed dramas such as Queen of Tears, One Ordinary Day, and It's Okay to Not Be Okay, among others, solidifying his position as one of South Korea’s most celebrated stars.
