
In a move that has surprised fans and industry watchers alike, Korean actor Cho Yoon Woo has announced his decision to retire from acting at the age of 34 in order to begin a new chapter of his life through marriage.
The actor shared the emotional news through a heartfelt post on his official Instagram account, confirming that he is stepping away from his 15-year career to focus on his personal life.
Cho Yoon Woo, who debuted as a young actor at just 21, revealed that the decision came after deep and prolonged contemplation. In his post, he wrote, “After long deliberation, I have found a precious person to be with for life, and to pursue our simple daily life together, I have decided to step away from my 15-year acting career.” The announcement immediately sparked widespread discussion online, with many fans expressing shock as well as support for his choice.
Reflecting on his journey in the entertainment industry, Cho acknowledged the significance of the years he spent acting. “Debuting at 21 and spending 15 years solely focused on my career as an actor has been truly valuable,” he shared. He also explained why he chose to reveal the news only now, stating, “After careful and lengthy consideration, I am only now sharing this.” Emphasising his desire for a more personal and grounded future, he added, “From now on, I want to enjoy my remaining life with someone I want to protect forever for the first time in my life.”
The actor also spoke openly about his relationship, revealing that he has been with his partner for over four years. Requesting warmth and understanding from fans, Cho wrote, “Please kindly watch over the life I share with my precious lover and closest friend, with whom I have been together for over four years.”

Cho Yoon Woo made his acting debut in 2011 with the tvN drama Flower Boy Ramen Shop, quickly gaining attention for his youthful charm and screen presence. He became particularly memorable to K-drama audiences in 2013 through his role in The Heirs, written by Kim Eun Sook, where he portrayed a school bullying victim opposite Kim Woo Bin. Despite limited screen time, the emotionally charged performance left a lasting impression and remains one of his most talked-about roles.
He continued acting in projects such as the 2017 drama Band of Sisters before enlisting for mandatory military service in June 2018. Cho was officially discharged in February 2020 and made a brief return to the screen in recent years. His most recent appearance was a special role in the 2023 ENA drama Not Others, which has now become his final credited acting work.
