John Abraham recently addressed the commercial disappointment of his latest film, Vedaa, which, despite receiving critical acclaim, failed to make a significant impact at the box office.

The film, directed by Nikkhil Advani, explores the sensitive and challenging topic of rape and its aftermath, inspired by real-life cases. It also faced stiff competition from other releases like Stree 2 and Khel Khel Mein, which may have contributed to its underperformance.

In an interview with Radio City, John candidly shared his feelings about the film's commercial failure. “There’s regret when your film doesn’t work commercially,” he said.

Despite the box office setback, John expressed immense pride in Vedaa, emphasizing the courage it took to tackle such a heavy subject. He remarked, “It's a brave film to do. I wanted to work with Nikkhil again after Batla House. "

He added "We've told it entertainingly, but there's no getting around the fact that the subject is heavy. And if people aren't interested in watching films with heavy subjects, that's their choice. I respect it. But you have to face the subject at the end of the day.”

John highlighted that while the film did not resonate with a broad audience, he remains proud of the work done. “I’m very proud that we made a very good film. This is possibly Nikkhil and my best work together,” he noted.

Despite the commercial disappointment, he praised the film’s overall execution, from performances to technical aspects. “Our cast has performed brilliantly, every department, from cinematography to action, has done well. People will find things to complain about with the screenplay, and that’s fine."

"We respect everybody’s point of view. But I’m proud we’ve made a good film,” John said. He acknowledged that while some criticism regarding the screenplay was valid, he firmly believed in the film’s quality and its important message.

Looking ahead, John Abraham is set to star in the upcoming film Tehran, continuing his work in varied and impactful roles.

Despite the challenges faced with Vedaa, he remains optimistic and committed to his craft, ready to tackle new projects with the same dedication.
