Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, is gradually picking up pace at the Indian box office. The action-thriller, which was released on October 11, 2024, initially opened with a modest performance but saw significant growth on its second day.
Despite a box office clash with Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, starring Triptii Dimri and Rajkummar Rao, and the Tamil film Vettaiyan, led by Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, Jigra is holding its own, thanks to Alia Bhatt's strong fan following.
On its opening day, Jigra collected ₹4.55 crores, marking a fair start. However, the real momentum came on Saturday, with collections increasing by 38-49%. The film earned between ₹6.30 and ₹6.80 crores on its second day, bringing the two-day total to approximately ₹10.85-11.35 crores.
The Dussehra holiday and the weekend played key roles in boosting ticket sales. With this surge, Jigra has crossed the double-digit mark in just two days.
Looking ahead, the film is expected to see another rise in collections on Sunday. However, the crucial test will come in its first week, with Monday's performance likely to determine the movie’s long-term box office success.
Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra tells the story of a devoted sister, played by Alia Bhatt, who goes to great lengths to rescue her brother from prison.
Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Alia Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions, the film also stars Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Manoj Pahwa in supporting roles.
While the film’s box office numbers are currently based on early estimates, the strong weekend growth suggests that Jigra has potential for a successful run, especially if it maintains momentum during the upcoming weekdays.
