Actress Jamie Lee Curtis has recently revealed that she will soon leave Hollywood after she watched her parents, industry icons Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, get rejected despite being in the industry for decades.
During a recent interview with The Guardian, the veteran actress slammed the industry for the way it treats older icons, especially women, calling it ‘painful.’
She said, “I witnessed my parents lose the very thing that gave them their fame and their life and their livelihood, when the industry rejected them at a certain age. I watched them reach incredible success and then have it slowly erode to where it was gone. And that’s very painful.”
The actress then admitted that she has always been one step ahead and announced her retirement. She shared, “I have been prepping to get out, so that I don’t have to suffer the same as my family did. I want to leave the party before I’m no longer invited.”
Jamie Lee Curtis made her acting debut in the 1978 horror film Halloween. She has since starred in a series of blockbuster movies over almost five decades of her career. She is mostly known for her performances in the horror and slasher franchises, alongside multiple comedies. She is regarded as a 'scream queen'.
Her most recent project includes Freakier Friday, a sequel to 2003’s Freaky Friday. In the latest film, Jamie reprised her role as Tess Coleman, opposite Lindsay Lohan, though now she’s playing a grandmother. The film explores the characters’ lives after 22 years. The film also stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Chad Michael Murray, and Julia Butters, among others.
