The Jammu and Kashmir Police have taken strict action against social media influencer Orhan Awatramani, commonly known as “Orry,” and seven others for allegedly consuming alcohol and non-vegetarian food near the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra. The police emphasized that such acts violate the religious sanctity of the region and have vowed to deal with defaulters with an “iron hand.”

Violation of Religious Norms

The controversy erupted when reports surfaced that Orry and his group were allegedly consuming alcohol and non-vegetarian food at the Cottage Suite in Katra. This area has strict rules against non-vegetarian food and intoxicants due to its proximity to the Vaishno Devi shrine, one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in Hinduism.

According to the police, “alcohol and non-vegetarian diet is not allowed inside Cottage Suite as it is strictly prohibited at divine places like Mata Vaishno Devi temple.” The alleged actions of the group not only broke local regulations but also hurt religious sentiments.

FIR Lodged Against Orry and Others

The police registered an FIR on March 15 against Orry and seven others, including Darshan Singh, Parth Raina, Ritick Singh, Rashi Dutta, Rakshita Bhogal, Shagun Kohli, and Anastasila Arzamaskina. According to authorities, despite being “told that alcohol and non-vegetarian diet is not allowed inside Cottage Suite,” the group continued to violate the rules.

In a press release, the police asserted their commitment to enforcing laws in the region. “There is no place for those who don’t follow the law of the land and try to disrupt the peace by resorting to any means, especially by way of drugs/alcohol, and they will be dealt with by iron hands,” said SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh.

Sending a Strong Message

Authorities believe that this case is not just about individual actions but about sending a broader message regarding the sanctity of religious sites. “SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh passed strict instructions to nab defaulters to set an example of no tolerance of any such act of drugs or alcohol at religious places which hurts the sentiments of the common masses.”

The police also emphasized that violating these norms is disrespectful to the faith of devotees who visit the shrine. “A team was constituted under the supervision of SP Katra, Dy SP Katra, and other officers to track the culprits who violated the rule of the land and shown disrespect to the sentiments of the people connected with the faith.”

Public Reaction and Backlash

The incident has sparked significant public outrage, particularly among devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi. Many are demanding stricter enforcement of religious laws in the region to prevent such occurrences in the future. Given the sensitivity of the location, this case is being treated as a serious violation of religious decorum.

Orry, a well-known social media personality, has gained attention for his connections with Bollywood celebrities such as Janhvi Kapoor, Ananya Panday, Urvashi Rautela, and Bhumi Pednekar. However, his association with this controversy has led to significant criticism.
