Hridayapoorvam: Mohanlal's film crosses Rs 10 crore gross, records 5th biggest first Saturday post-covid

Mohanlal’s latest family entertainer Hridayapoorvam is passing through its extended opening weekend with mixed signals at the box office. Released amid fair buzz and riding on the superstar’s strong fan following, the film was expected to capitalise on the positive reviews and festive weekend crowd.

However, the collections so far suggest that the momentum hasn’t quite picked up despite encouraging word-of-mouth.

On its opening day, Hridayapoorvam made a respectable start by earning Rs 3.25 crore. The hope was for the film to build on this start and show growth across the weekend. Instead, day 2 witnessed a decline, as the film managed only Rs 2.5 crores. With Saturday generally considered a crucial day for any film’s box office run, the drama had an opportunity to bounce back.

Unfortunately, the gains were minimal, as it collected Rs 2.85 crores on its third day. Ideally, industry trackers were eyeing a figure close to 4 crores, but the numbers fell short.

With Rs 2.85 crores on day 3, Hridayapoorvam secured the fifth biggest first Saturday collection for Mohanlal in the post-COVID era. The film trailed behind Neru (3 crores) and was far below Mohanlal’s biggest post-pandemic opener, L2: Empuraan, which stormed the box office with a massive 13.25 crores on its first Saturday.

Here’s the list of Mohanlal’s post-COVID first Saturday performers (highest to lowest):

L2: Empuraan – 13.25 crores
Thudarum – 8.6 crores
Marakkar – 3.28 crores
Neru – 3 crores
Hridayapoorvam – 2.85 crores
Aaraattu – 2.79 crores
Malaikottai Vaaliban – 1.5 crores
Barroz – 1.25 crores
Monster – 1 crore
Alone – 8 lakh

In its first three days, Hridayapoorvam has netted Rs 8.6 crores in India, translating to a gross of Rs 10.14 crores including GST. While this total looks fairly steady for a film mounted on a RS 30-crore budget, the absence of a strong upward trend is concerning. As the first weekend closes, all attention now shifts to the crucial weekday hold, which will decide whether Hridayapoorvam manages to sustain or fades away in the weeks ahead.
