Marvel Studios has finally delivered a moment fans have been waiting years for: the X-Men are truly back. The third teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, first shown in cinemas before Avatar: Fire and Ash and now released online, confirms the long-rumoured reunion of Fox’s original mutant icons.

For many viewers, it feels less like a reveal and more like a homecoming.

Patrick Stewart once again steps into the role of Professor Charles Xavier, reunited with Ian McKellen’s Magneto and James Marsden’s Cyclops.

These performances helped define superhero cinema in the early 2000s, long before shared universes became the norm.

While Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has already crossed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe through Deadpool & Wolverine, and Patrick Stewart briefly appeared as an alternate version of Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, this marks the first time the classic X-Men stand fully alongside the Avengers and other Marvel heroes.

The teaser itself leans heavily into nostalgia and atmosphere. It begins at the deserted Xavier's School for Gifted Youngers, establishing a gloomy mood right away. Magneto's voice pierces the quiet with a sharp reflection: “Death comes for us all. It’s all I know for sure. The question isn’t ‘are you prepared to die?’ The question is ‘who would you be when you close your eyes?’”

Familiar imagery follows, including Charles Xavier’s wheelchair and a floating chess piece, quietly echoing X-Men: The Last Stand. A tense but emotional embrace between the former friends suggests unresolved history, before attention turns to Scott Summers.

James Marsden’s Cyclops appears visibly shaken as he unleashes a colossal optic blast, hinting that this time he may finally take centre stage. In the background, a towering mechanical limb strongly points to the return of the Sentinels.

The scale of Avengers: Doomsday is enormous. Joining Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden are Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique.

They will interact with Avengers mainstays including Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Simu Liu.

The film also brings in the Fantastic Four, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, alongside the Thunderbolts team featuring Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman.

With decades of Marvel history colliding, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be not just a blockbuster, but a genuine celebration of everything superhero cinema has become.
