Lionsgate is officially returning to the world of The Housemaid — and it’s hardly a surprise.
After a blistering box-office run, the studio has confirmed a sequel titled The Housemaid’s Secret, giving audiences another chapter in Millie’s dark and addictive story.
Released only two-and-a-half weeks ago, The Housemaid has already pulled in an impressive $133 million worldwide, far surpassing expectations for the psychological thriller.
With a modest $35 million budget and $75.7 million earned in North America alone, the film has quickly become one of early 2026’s standout successes.
Much of that momentum has been fuelled by strong audience reactions online, where viewers have been dissecting the film’s twists almost as fast as they experienced them.
At the centre of it all is Sydney Sweeney, who stars as Millie, a young woman attempting to rebuild her life by working as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Winchester family.
Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Skelnar play Nina and Andrew Winchester, whose pristine home hides disturbing secrets. Michele Morrone appears as Enzo, the quiet groundskeeper who becomes Millie’s confidant, while Elizabeth Perkins adds further tension in a supporting role. The film’s final moments — set to Taylor Swift’s “I Did Something Bad” — left little doubt that Millie’s journey was far from finished.
Confirming the sequel, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said, “It’s clear from both the global box office and from the outpouring on social media that audiences have responded strongly — and audibly — to the totally unique and truly theatrical experience of The Housemaid and want to know what happens next.”
Key members of the original creative team will return for The Housemaid’s Secret. Sydney Sweeney, director Paul Feig and Michele Morrone are all set to reprise their roles, with Rebecca Sonnenshine adapting the screenplay from the second novel in Freida McFadden’s bestselling trilogy.
Sydney Sweeney and Freida McFadden will also serve as executive producers alongside Hidden Pictures’ Carly Elter and Alex Young.
Fogelson added, “We are beyond excited to bring the next chapter of Millie’s story to life on-screen in collaboration with our outstanding creative partners Todd, Paul, Laura, Carly, Alex, and Sydney. The Housemaid’s Secret is another wildly thrilling book in Freida’s series that has captivated readers worldwide, and we look forward to translating it into a similarly rousing and riotous moviegoing experience.”
With over 12 million copies sold, translations in 40 languages and 65 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list, Freida McFadden’s series has already proven its global appeal.
Production on The Housemaid’s Secret is expected to begin later in 2026 — and fans are clearly ready for what comes next.
