Phil Dunster, known for his role in Ted Lasso, is all set to appear in the live-action How to Train Your Dragon 2 film from Universal Pictures.
Phil will play Eret, who appears in the 2014 animated film as the arrogant, conceited, and self-described “finest dragon trapper alive.”
In the follow-up to Universal's 2025 success, which brought in $636 million worldwide, Dunster joins Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Gerard Butler, Cate Blanchett, Šlafur Darriňlafsson, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, and Harry Trevaldwyn. The best-selling book series by Cressida Cowell served as the inspiration for the franchise.
The film's writer, director, and executive producer is none other than Dean DeBlois, who co-created the cinematic franchise and wrote and directed the live-action version last year.
The film continues the exploits of Hiccup (Thames), the dragon-friendly Viking who introduced his town to the possibility of coexisting with the flying, fire-breathing beasts, and is an adaptation of the second instalment, which came out in 2014.
The plot revolves around the return of Hiccup's mother, who is thought to be dead, and the threat posed by Drago Bludvist, a man who wants to use a dragon army to take over the world.
Adam Siegel, president of Marc Platt Productions, and Marc Platt (Wicked) are producing through their Universal-based company, Marc Platt Productions. The feature will be released on June 11, 2027, according to Universal.

For the unversed, Phil is known for his Emmy-nominated performance as the cocky, boastful “Jamie Tartt” in Apple TV’s hit Ted Lasso. The series will soon debut Season 4 this summer.
Besides this, Phil will be next seen alongside Steve Carell in the Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses comedy series Rooster for HBO.
