At the 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 11, 2026, Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo took center stage not just for cinematic achievements but for a powerful political statement against U.S. immigration enforcement practices. Ruffalo, alongside other high-profile celebrities, used the red carpet to protest the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by wearing black-and-white pins reading “Be Good” and “ICE Out.”

The symbolic pins were worn in tribute to Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis woman who was fatally shot by an ICE officer earlier that week during a federal immigration enforcement operation. The incident has ignited widespread protests across the United States, with demonstrators calling for accountability and reforms in how immigration laws are enforced.

As Ruffalo arrived at the awards ceremony, he visibly sported a “Be Good” pin. Ruffalo told USA Today, "It's for Renee Nicole Good, who was murdered," explaining his choice to wear the pin. He added, "We have a vice president who is lying about what's happening. We're in the middle of a war with Venezuela that we illegally invaded. (Trump) is telling the world that international law doesn't matter to him. The only thing that matters to him is his own morality.”

Ruffalo said, "The guy is a convicted felon. He's the worst human being. If we're relying on this guy's morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we're all in a lot of trouble. So this is for (Renee). This is for the people in the United States who are terrorized and scared today. I know I'm one of them. I love this country, and what I'm seeing here happening is not America."

The gesture was mirrored by fellow nominees and attendees, including Wanda Sykes, Natasha Lyonne, Jean Smart, and Ariana Grande. While some wore the pins on the red carpet, others displayed them inside the Beverly Hilton ballroom during the event.
