Trevor Noah has always marched to the beat of his own drum at music’s biggest night, and the 2026 Grammy Awards were no exception.
Hosting the ceremony for the sixth and final time, the former Daily Show star kicked things off at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on February 1 with a monologue that was low on zingers but full of warmth, cheer, and genuine admiration for the talent in the room. Right from the start, Noah set a tone that was as celebratory as it was entertaining.
When he reached Justin Bieber’s table, he couldn’t resist showering the pop star with praise — much to Hailey Bieber’s amusement. “Justin Bieber is back in the house—look at this!” Noah said.
“This man has done so many amazing things. His album Swag nominated, four Grammy nominations. And I think, better than any Grammy, he’s come back as a new dad. Congratulations to both of you!”
Noah’s humour also celebrated the small, everyday wins. “My personal favourite thing Justin Bieber has done over the past year is,” he continued, “he told Apple to move the dictation button on the keyboard. Hero, Justin. Now I just need you to tell them to make a new feature where, when you search on your phone, it finds things. Please, Justin, we need you.” Hailey couldn’t stop laughing.
And, in true Trevor Noah fashion, he sprinkled in a little playful banter for Hailey herself: “And by the way, Hailey, do you have a discount code for the lip tint? I just need—you know, it’s fine, we’ll talk later.”
At 41, Noah — a four-time Grammy nominee himself, including this year for Best Audio Book, Narration & Storytelling Recording for Into the Uncut Grass — has never gone the full roast route.
Instead, he finds the fun in celebrating the artists’ accomplishments, sometimes weaving in light jokes about politics or the world. “I am 1,000 percent a fan,” he told Billboard in 2022.
“What many people don’t realise is how much work goes into the performances… You don’t truly appreciate it until you get behind the scenes, and I think that’s what makes me enjoy the show even more.”
While Taylor Swift isn’t part of this year’s race, Kendrick Lamar leads with nine nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Rap Album for GNX, Record and Song of the Year with SZA for Luther, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for his role in SZA’s 30 for 30, and Best Rap Song for tv off featuring Lefty Gunplay.
Ben Winston, the Grammys’ executive producer, revealed that 2025 almost marked Noah’s final hosting gig.
