The entertainment industry was left in shock after actor Eric Dane passed away on February 19 at the age of 53. His death came just 10 months after he publicly revealed that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Months before his passing, the Euphoria star recorded what would become his final interview. The conversation was filmed as part of Netflix’s new series Famous Last Words. According to Netflix, the episode was shot under a private agreement that it would only be released after his death. The interview remained confidential until it was broadcast following his passing.

At the conclusion of the emotional recording, Dane was left alone with the camera and chose to deliver a deeply personal message to his teenage daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14.

He is heard saying in the video, "Billie and Georgia, these words are for you. I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall, we had a blast, didn't we?"

Eric, who shared his daughters with his former partner Rebecca Gayheart, reflected on cherished family memories. He spoke about the time they spent at the beach and how he would always remember watching them play in the water. "Those days, pun intended, pun intended were heaven," he said.

During the interview, Dane explained that he wanted to leave his daughters with four key lessons he had learned through his battle with ALS, asking them to listen carefully.

"First, live now, right now in the present. It's hard, but I learned to do that," Dane said. "For years, I would wander off mentally, lost in my head for long chunks of time, wallowing in worry and self-pity, shame and doubt. I replayed decisions, second-guessed myself. 'I shouldn't have done this. I never should've done that.' No more."

He then urged them to embrace love in all its forms. "Second, fall in love. Not necessarily with a person, although I do recommend that as well. But fall in love with something. Find your passion, your joy. Find the thing that makes you wanna get up in the morning."

Offering advice about friendships, he continued, "Third, choose your friends wisely. Find your people and allow them to find you, and then give yourselves to them. The best of them will give back to you. No judgement. No conditions. No questions asked." Dane said he was so thankful to his friends who had all "stepped up" for him in his illness.

He further mentioned that he was grateful for his friends for showing up for him. "Just show up. And love your friends with everything you have. Hang on to them. They will entertain you, guide you support you and some will save you," he said.

For his final lesson, Dane spoke about resilience and perseverance, encouraging his daughters to never surrender in the face of adversity.

"Finally, fight with every ounce of your being and with dignity. When you face challenges, health or otherwise, fight. Never give up. Fight until your last breath. This disease is slowly taking my body, but it will never take my spirit."

He went on to tell Billie and Georgia that although they are different individuals, they had both inherited his strength and resilience.

"That's my superpower," Dane said of being resilient. "I bounce right up, and I keep coming back. I get up again and again and again. Mark says I'm like a cat. Except a cat has nine lives, and I'm on number 15, easily. So when something unexpected hits you, and it will, because that's life, fight and face it with honesty, integrity and grace, even if it feels or seems insurmountable."

Dane, widely recognized for his roles in Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria, had announced his ALS diagnosis in April 2025. Despite the progression of the disease over the following months, he continued to express gratitude for the people around him and remained focused on leaving behind words of strength and love for his family.

His final interview now stands as a moving testament to resilience, fatherhood, and the enduring power of spirit in the face of illness.
