Hamnet has recently won big at the Golden Globe 2026. The film directed by Chloé Zhao took home the 2026 Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Drama on Sunday, January 11.

George Clooney and Don Cheadle presented the award to the film’s crew. The moment included a mini-Ocean's reunion, producer Steven Spielberg hailed the team and praised the "exceptional" Chloé Zhao, referring to her as the "one filmmaker on the face of the planet who could tell this story."

Zhao, 43, reiterated a message that celebrity Paul Mescal had given her earlier in the day.

In her acceptance speech, Zhao said, “Making Hamnet made him realize that the most important thing of being an artist is learning to be vulnerable enough to allow ourselves to be seen for who we are and not who we ought to be. And to give ourselves fully to the world.”

She added, "Even the parts of ourselves that we're ashamed of, that we're afraid of, that are imperfect, so the people that we speak to, they can also see themselves and fully accept themselves."

Zhao expressed respect for fellow candidate Ryan Coogler, the director of Sinners, and other people who have demonstrated "bravery" and "dedication" in their work over the years.
