Celebrity chef Anne Burrell died last year at the age of 55, and newly surfaced details from the New York Police Department have revealed the discovery of a “suicidal note” inside her Brooklyn residence.

According to a report cited by People, investigators located the note in the primary bedroom of Burrell’s home in Brooklyn following her death on June 17, 2025. In the same room, authorities also found journal entries described in the police documentation as “suicidal,” which were placed on the bed.

The NYPD report outlines that in the early morning hours of June 17, 2025, a redacted individual identified as being “married to Anne” — an apparent reference to her husband, Stuart Claxton — observed that the bed in their shared room had been made, something he reportedly told officers “is not normal.”

Claxton then discovered Burrell lying on the bathroom floor “with a bunch of over the counter pills on the floor." He attempted to rouse her by “shaking her and slapping her face,” but when she remained unresponsive, he immediately called 911.

The official report details how Claxton first realized she was not in bed, located her unconscious in the bathroom, and sought emergency assistance. The presence of the note and journal entries, as referenced in the documentation, provides additional context that had not been publicly known in 2025.

Claxton told police that his wife had “never attempted suicide in the past” and “never talked about it.” He further stated that she had not shown “any signs that she would do something like this,” according to the police report.

Authorities have not disclosed the contents of the note or the journal entries, and no specific information regarding what was written has been released.

Burrell and Claxton met on the dating app Bumble in 2018 and later married on October 16, 2021.

She is survived by Claxton and his son, Javier, as well as her mother, Marlene; her sister, Jane; Jane’s children Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas; and her brother, Ben.
