Legendary actor Robert Duvall passed away quietly at home on Monday. He was 95. Hollywood mourned the loss of the veteran actor.
The Oscar-winning actor was well-known for his stirring roles in classic films like Tender Mercies, Apocalypse Now, and The Godfather. He was a tremendous talent and a powerful, motivating figure on and off film, according to his friends and fellow performers.
Luciana Duvall, Robert Duvall's wife, posted an emotional statement on Facebook announcing his passing and verifying that he passed away in a loving and comfortable environment.
Several Hollywood celebrities honoured the veteran actor on social media soon after the news surfaced.
Adam Sandler, who co-starred with Robert in the 2022 movie Hustle, took to his Instagram and paid tribute with a loving message.
He wrote, “Funny as hell. Strong as hell. One of the greatest actors we ever had. Such a great man to talk to and laugh with. Loved him so much. We all did. So many movies to choose from that were legendary. Watch them when you can. Sending his wife Luciana and all his family and friends our condolences.”
Viola Davis also paid tribute, calling it an ‘honour’ to co-star with Robert, in the 2018 thriller Widows.
Viola wrote, “I had the honor of working alongside you in Widows. I was in awe. I’ve always been in awe of your towering portrayals of men who were both quiet and dominating in their humanness. You were a giant an icon Apocalypse Now, The Godfather, To Kill a Mockingbird, Tender Mercies, The Apostle, Lonesome Dove etc Greatness never dies. It stays as a gift. Rest well, sir. Your name will be spoken May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
Michael Keaton, who starred with Duvall in Ron Howard’s 1994 film The Paper, also remembered the veteran actor as a friend.

He took to his Instagram and shared a portrait of Robert. Sharing the picture, he penned in the caption, “Another friend goes down. Acted with and became friends. shared a great afternoon on my front porch talking about horses. He was greatness personified as an actor. RIP RD."
He is nominated for his Oscar-nominated roles in The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, The Great Santini and The Apostle. He received worldwide fame with his portrayal of Tom Hagen in The Godfather (1972).
