Veteran actor Govinda has reacted strongly to the title of Vicky Kaushal’s 2022 comedy-thriller Govinda Naam Mera, saying he felt the film was using his name to push a story that sounded uncomfortably close to a celebrity’s private life.
Speaking about the film, Govinda said he was surprised that a movie was made with his name in the title and claimed the plot synopsis he heard did not sit right with him.
“Kissine mere naam se movie banaya tha. Govinda mera naam. Karan Johar ki thi. Uska subject tha ki actor ki girlfriend ke sath gadbad ho jati hai aur wife husband par shak karti hai,” Govinda said, describing what he believed the story revolved around.
The actor then suggested that such a premise feels like an attempt to enter an actor’s personal space, adding, “Ye personal life ke andar story ghusadne prayas lagta hai.”
Govinda’s remarks quickly drew attention online because of the sharp warning that followed. In the same breath, he said that if the people behind such jokes ever ran into him, he would respond in his own way, while insisting he would not cross a line.
“Mere hath kabhi lage toh aadarniya Rajinikanth ki tarah itna main prasad dunga. I promise. No misbehave,” he said.
Govinda also underlined that he does not enjoy humour that, in his view, comes at someone’s expense or feels disrespectful.
“Main request karta hu ki mazaak har tarah se harr jagah se acha nahi lagta,” he said, urging people to be more mindful about what they present as entertainment.
A few days ago, Govinda's manager Shashi also clarified that Govinda is not bankrupt and he chooses to dance in wedding events and programs only because he has special love for dance.
Govinda Naam Mera, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and starring Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, and Kiara Advani, premiered in December 2022 on Disney+ Hotstar.
