During Week 2 of Coachella 2025, one of the largest music festivals in the US, girl group XG stole the show on Sunday, April 20. Their appearance comes after a strong Week 1 performance on April 13, when they battled strong winds to close out Coachella's largest indoor venue, the iconic Sahara Stage.
With the hashtag #XGCHELLA rising to #5 on global trending charts and making it into the top 5 in 11 countries, including the US, their electrifying performance instantly won over hearts. International media outlets lauded their daring makeup and hairstyles, as well as their impressive stage presence.
For their Week 2 performance, XG returned with a completely revamped concept. Swapping their white outfits from the previous week for fierce all-red ensembles—including COCONA’s buzzcut look—the group launched into their set with a thrilling mix of songs, starting with “HESONOO + X-GENE” and seamlessly moving into their all-rap track “WOKE UP.” The intensity reached new heights with “GRL GVNG,” their record-breaking single that made them the first Japanese act to top Billboard’s “Hot Trending Songs Powered by Twitter” chart.
Energizing the audience, CHISA greeted the crowd with, “What’s up Coachella!! You ready for Week 2?”, while MAYA added, “WOW, being here right now feels so surreal. WE LOVE YOU COACHELLA! Let’s get crazy tonight!” The crowd erupted in response.
17 artists, including dancers and members wearing masks, performed a painstakingly planned routine inspired by traditional Japanese shinobi themes during the exciting "SHINOBI" dance break. During the popular song "LEFT RIGHT," the audience enthusiastically joined in, moving in time with the beat.
With performances of "TGIF" and "PUPPET SHOW," the group maintained a high level of energy before releasing their second single, "MASCARA," at Coachella. "ALL RIGHT COACHELLA!" JURIN yelled, energising the crowd. The audience roared back with excitement, "THIS IS OUR PARTY!"
Their viral hit "IS THIS LOVE," which was included in Shiseido ANESSA's global campaign, was one of the most notable moments. Before switching to the original version, the performance started with a gentle piano arrangement, giving fans a new, poignant interpretation of the well-loved song. With upbeat hits like "NEW DANCE" and "SOMETHING AIN'T RIGHT," they continued the celebration before ending the evening with a band-backed performance of their hit song, "SHOOTING STAR."
The members were notably more at ease, self-assured, and expressive than they had been in Week 1. Their captivating performance left a lasting impression on the festival's international audience. XG gave a memorable closing performance as the last act of Coachella 2025, which took place over two weekends and six days.
Following their performance, #XG_COACHELLA surged to #2 in global trends on X (formerly Twitter), with fans from all over the world praising their commanding stage set and unmatched energy.
XG is currently in the midst of their first-ever world tour titled XG 1st WORLD TOUR ‘The first HOWL’, spanning 47 shows in 35 cities across 18 countries and regions. This week, they’ll take the stage in São Paulo on April 24 and Mexico City on April 27, before wrapping up with a grand finale at Tokyo Dome on May 14, where they’re also set to unveil their newest single, “MILLION PLACES.”
